39-year-old teacher stopped for marijuana use, speeding

In Florida, there are many reasons a teacher can get into trouble with the law. Getting romantically involved with a student, taking drugs or behaving inappropriately in other ways can all cause problems. As someone facing allegations of drug use or other negative behaviors, you know that your job and livelihood is at risk. You may be working with an attorney to help build a case against the charges, like this individual may want to do.

An Oct. 1 report discussed a 39-year-old teacher who has been accused of having marijuana in his vehicle while traveling near school grounds. The man, an elementary school teacher, has been charged with two misdemeanors, one for the possession of marijuana and another for drug paraphernalia. On top of that, deputies have reported that the man was caught speeding through a school zone near the elementary school where he works.

The teacher allegedly admitted to using marijuana, and he claimed it was for pain related to a broken back. At the moment, medical marijuana and marijuana for personal or recreational use is not legal in Florida. Following the traffic stop, the school district reportedly told the teacher that he is not allowed to return to school until he speaks to representatives from the Office of Professional Standards.

Once the organization completes an investigation into the situation, the man may be able to return to work or could face other consequences, depending on the outcome. For teachers in this position, some potential outcomes could be suspensions, lost wages or even termination from their jobs.
