Teacher loses license over one-time mistake with student

As a teacher, you have an obligation and responsibility to your students. You need to be a good role model and to follow the rules and laws of your state. As many people know, participating in any kind of sexual activity with a minor or a student can result in punishment. Even if you don't face criminal charges for these kinds of activities, your teaching license could be in danger of being revoked.

In this case, a 30-year-old female instructor from Palm Beach, Florida, was accused of having a short romance with a 17-year-old student from her class. The report from police says that the relationship started in November 2013 when the teacher participated in "prolonged kissing." She has since been accused of inappropriate sexual touching and of sending inappropriate text messages to the student.

The police at the school hadn't filed criminal charges since the student was an older minor and because no sexual acts had actually taken place between the pair. However, despite this, the teacher was fired in 2014. Now, the Florida Education Practices Commission has decided to permanently revoke the woman's teaching license.

Interestingly, the story reports that the inappropriate sexual touching was only touching the student on the upper thigh over his clothing and participating in kissing. There were no other encounters, according to the police report, and it was actually the friends of the 17-year-old student who reported the incident to their parents. No criminal charges were filed by police and no claims were shown to have been filed by the student or his parents.
