Teacher accused of relationship with minor in Florida

If you're accused of participating in a sexual act with a student or minor, you could face serious fines, prison and other punishments. These accusations aren't always true, but they can impact your life from the moment they come out. Take for instance the story of this man who has allegedly confessed to having a relationship with a student and now faces career-related consequences. She was 17 years old at the time, which would allow a four-year Romeo and Juliet clause to kick in if the teacher was under the age of 21. It's been claimed that the two primarily had relations after the student's 18th birthday.

The teacher was not that young, however, and as a 32-year-old, he faces serious consequences if he is found guilty of the crime. He has been taken into custody and is being held at the Nassau County Jail, according to the report from June 16. The teacher from Fernandina Beach had been working as a TV production and digital design educator at Fernandina Beach High School for the last two years and had previously been employed at Hilliard High School.

The student in this case is now an adult and has graduated high school, so that may work in the man's favor if the relationship was consensual. According to the court documents, the Fernandina Beach police had investigated the rumor that the two were in an inappropriate relationship as long ago as April. The only reason the allegedly relationship was known about was a rumor from a parent's children about the possibility of an inappropriate relationship between the teen and the man.

When the police spoke to the student and teacher, there was no information or evidence to support an arrest. However, recently, the man's wife and sister-in-law allegedly turned in additional information about the relationship, including the alleged fact that a former student's mom had told the sister-in-law that she had seen the two together in the man's vehicle. While the relationship had allegedly not been sexual until after the student's 18th birthday, that has been challenged, because the student allegedly reported two sexual interactions before her 18th birthday.
